FAQ

What does acupuncture feel like?

Most people feel only a tiny, quick pinch or nothing at all when the very fine needles are inserted. Once in place, you might feel a mild heaviness, tingling, warmth, or a dull ache around the needle – this is often the desired therapeutic sensation.

Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points on the body with fine needles. According to traditional Chinese medicine principles, this helps to balance the flow of your body’s vital energy (Qi), promote natural healing, reduce pain, and improve overall function.

This varies greatly depending on your condition, its severity, and how long you have had it. Some people feel better after just one session, while others with chronic issues may need several treatments over weeks to experience significant, lasting results. We will discuss a likely timeline during your consultation.

While acupuncture helps many people, individual responses can differ. Factors like the nature of your condition, your overall health, and consistency with treatments play a role. We focus on creating a personalized plan to give you the best possible success.

Your first visit involves a thorough consultation where Caryn will discuss your health history, main concerns, and goals. She will perform a traditional diagnosis (like checking your pulse and tongue). Based on this, she will explain your treatment plan and you will typically receive your first acupuncture session.

The number of sessions needed varies based on your specific needs and health goals. Acute conditions might resolve quickly, while chronic issues often require a longer course of treatment, sometimes starting with 1-2 sessions per week. We will design a plan tailored just for you.

Absolutely. Your safety is our top priority. We only use sterile, single-use, disposable needles. They are opened from sealed packaging right before your treatment and safely discarded immediately after use.

Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a qualified practitioner, such as Dr. Lisa Wang. Minor and temporary side effects, like slight bruising, minimal bleeding at the needle site, or mild drowsiness, can occasionally occur. Serious side effects are extremely rare.
